The Rough Roller adjustable off-road wheelchair device is very unique! Three different styles of Rough Roller are available, including the aggressive forward sweeping multi-directional ball design, adaptable to both electric and manual wheelchairs. The Rough Roller II is a less aggressive "dual ball" front caster design with independent suspension. This allows for greater mobility in tight spaces but still offers excellent mobility on hard to navigate surfaces. The Rough Roller is adaptable to ALL types of electric wheelchairs: Rear wheel drive, mid wheel drive, and front wheel drive. The electric wheelchair design can be improved by adapting a elastomer coupler so it can give even a smoother ride.

All manual designs have a custom adjustable dual shock suspension for a cushioned ride for any weight. Even more importantly the suspension compensates on tricky landscapes. The suspension can help you power your way out of a hole, bound across rocks, logs or brush, negotiate a stream, river or make the transition from sand, snow or soft dirt back to hard surfaces. The suspension creates a "perpetual motion" effect, causing the chair to spring forward or back in a tricky situation.

The quick release disk breaks work great on steep hills, stairs, and uneven terrain, they are also much easier on the operators hands & fingers. They lock when you need to stay in place. Unlike traditional breaks they work awesome in the rain and snow. When you Need to stay in place, they work great for transferring, or when you just need a break climbing a hill. Standard wheelchairs are not equipped with breaks; they only have what are called "wheel locks". Wheelchair manufactures and dealers refuse to call the "wheel locks" breaks, because they are not safe to use for breaking. Wheel locks are only designed to keep your chair from rolling when it is already in a stationary position. the Rough Roller's disk breaks are an immense improvement over wheel locks.

The design also includes a quick release adjustable wheelie bar, this allows the chair to be navigate up very steep hills, curbs, and stairs with confidence! They also help maneuver across deep ditches, rivers, streams, etc. The wheelie bar is very unique because it can be made to fit the everyday chairs that are sold in a smaller version, as seen on my chair. The current wheelie bars that are made for your everyday chairs DO NOT WORK...They tear up the persons feet that push the chair, they are very difficult to adjust and are very DANGEROUS! Being a C-5-6 quadriplegic, I have smashed my head MANY times and it is impossible to get into a wheelchair accessible mini van or car with a ramp. This new version of the wheelie bar will allow people to climb a hill or ramp of any kind, without fail!

The custom patented "Ball / Re-Invented Wheel" will float on very deep snow and sand. It acts opposite of a normal caster wheel on a standard wheelchair, and ALL manual "off road" wheelchairs made today. They actually dig a hole on soft sand, snow and dirt, when it is time to turn, or back up. Also, it has a unique pliable strip on the ball to give a smooth ride, on the road or hard surface.

This is also a very "cost effective" device to build, material wise.
